W.S. Cumby provided Construction Management-at-Risk services for the planning and construction of NextFab Studio’s new high-tech workshop and prototyping center. The project was an adaptive re-use of a 21,000 SF, 19th-century warehouse building located on Washington Avenue in Philadelphia, which was formally a major thoroughfare for manufactured goods during the City’s industrial heyday.
Dubbed a “gym for innovators”, the new NextFab facility rekindles the neighborhood’s industrial heritage by providing members and student interns with innovation and collaboration space equipped with cutting edge tools for metalworking, woodworking, laser cutting and engraving, 3-D and laser printing, electronics, textile processing and motor vehicle building. The building also includes a public café, a private studio, a lounge, a conference room and classroom and office space.
