Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania
W.S. Cumby recently provided Construction Management services for the 15 acre reimagining of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, as its new campus. When it became clear that the existing campus in Wynnewood could no longer serve the needs of the Seminary, the Seminary chose to purchase 15 acres of land adjacent to the existing Gwynedd Mercy University campus.
A new campus was designed by Voith & Mactavish Architects to include a Residence Hall to house both the Priests and the Seminarians, as well as a Student Life Center that would serve as the heart of the campus and would host Seminarians activities throughout the day from academics to meals to worship.
The new Student Life Center includes a dining hall, classrooms, library, administrative offices, fitness center. A new 8,500 SF Chapel serves as the anchor of the new campus and houses a number of relics and artifacts that were transported from the Wynnewood location. The stained glass windows in the new Chapel were relocated from the former, historic Seminary Chapel and carefully reinstalled in the new space. A new Residence Hall features living spaces with semi-private bath and shower rooms, as well as student lounge spaces and a small Chapel.
