Student Activities Center, Williamson College of the Trades

Media, Pennsylvania

W.S. Cumby provided Preconstruction and Construction Management services for the ground-up construction of a new Student Activities Center at Williamson College of the Trades. The new two-story facility includes a bi-level gymnasium with 3 basketball courts, convertible to tennis and volleyball courts, along with suspended batting cages, divider curtains and a second level running/walking track. An enclosed lobby lounge connects the gymnasium to a weight room, cardio fitness center, multipurpose rooms and meeting rooms.

The building also contains a new E-Sports room to incorporate this brand-new sport into the schools’ sports program. An indoor concession stand connects to an outdoor elevated deck overlooking the football field. This was constructed entirely from concrete and features a free form concrete stair leading to a patio concourse, which flows to the new concrete bleachers. Elevated coaches and play-by-play announcer boxes also highlight this area. A new electrical switchgear service was installed to serve both current and future buildings on the campus. Large rooftop mechanical units are located in a mechanical area on the roof and screened from public view. An extensive site package included two underground detention basins, two parking areas and numerous storm runoff swales.

In addition, the entire project was built directly adjacent to the football field and construction sequencing was organized around the School’s games and activities.
