Philadelphia Zoo, Philadelphia, PA
W.S. Cumby served as Construction Manager for the new KidZooU: Hamilton Family Children’s Zoo & Faris Family Education Center. The exhibit is centrally located with both indoor and outdoor space, incorporating the spectacular 1940’s building designed by architect Paul Cret, along with 2.5 acres of surrounding land.
The adaptive re-use of the existing 21,000 SF historic Pachyderm House includes animal holding for the Zoo’s teaching collection, both formal and informal learning areas, staff offices and additional support space. New construction includes a public rest room facility, a stables building, and interactive exterior exhibits that focus primarily on rare domesticated breeds of goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, miniature horses and pigeons.
