W.S. Cumby recently completed the restoration and renovation of the historic Stoneleigh Mansion in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
For over 80 years, the Stoneleigh estate was the home of the Haas family. After the passing of John and Chara Aurora Cooper Haas, the 42-acre estate and mansion was donated to Natural Lands in 2016 for the conservation and protection of its famed gardens and landscaping. The historic, environmentally significant property is protected in perpetuity according to the Haas family’s wishes.
Stoneleigh Mansion is a Tudor Revival home built in 1877 and was restored to its original historic appearance in 2017 for use by the Organ Historical Society as an archival office and public space. The surrounding 42 acres recently opened to the public as Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden. It is a beautiful example of an intact estate complex.
Stoneleigh is a conserved public preserve that is currently at risk of being taken by eminent domain by the Lower Merion School District for the construction of a new school. The Lower Merion Conservancy and Natural Lands need our help to save this incredible public space.
