Established on a former estate in 1986, Waverly Heights is a non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Main Line. W.S. Cumby was selected as General Contractor to provide construction services of a new, luxury apartment building and renovations to existing facilities that meets the needs of today’s retirees. Waverly Heights’ management, trustees and residents decided to move forward with their expansion plan due to an increase in resident population and a need to modernize the community common spaces.
Designed by RLPS Architects, the new apartment building will consist of eight, 2,050-square-foot units and two 1,795-square-foot units. Each new apartment will feature two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms and an open floor plan that includes a great room, office, eat-in kitchen, dining area, sitting area and a covered porch. The apartments will be finished with hardwood floors, tiled showers, gas fireplaces and quartz countertops.
To reflect the residents’ desire for a “destination dining” experience, Waverly Heights’ eating areas will be reworked to include formal and casual dining rooms, a café, and an outdoor terrace. The pool and fitness center, another central hub for residents, will undergo renovations to accommodate new classes including aquatics, aerobics and dance. Massages and pedicures will be added to the list of services offered at the newly expanded salon, and the new technology center will allow residents to take classes to master iPhones, iPad and the latest tech offerings.
