Kappen Aquatic Center, Overbrook School for the Blind

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

W.S. Cumby was engaged at the culmination of Design Development to provide preconstruction services for the Overbrook School for the Blind’s new aquatic center. The school’s interest in the benefits of sustainable construction led the project team to the first LEED-NC Platinum certification in Pennsylvania and the first aquatic center in the nation.

The new ecologically responsible Kappen Aquatic Center houses a competition pool as well as a recreational and therapy pool which includes special water features used for physical rehabilitation.

As a result of the team’s focus on energy efficiency, the Overbrook School will realize a 43% operational savings in energy costs over a similar conventionally constructed building.
